Get On The Poll and Passing Fancies

So as y'all can all see there's a new rolly poll, so git on it.

Before I begin my "serious" discussion on passing fancies I'd just like to say that although it is 8 of clock in the morning. Does the "o" in "o'clock" stand for "of"? anyway... it appears to be only 6 because of the rain and clouds. I was planning on running a few errands early this morning but it seems as if I will have to put it off until a later time. This must be remnants of Jeanne. Okay, so onto my post...

So the other night we were either watching a show or just happened to have the tv on? Or maybe it all played out only in my mind... no matter. For some reason I thought I saw the Grand Canyon before my eyes. I don't mean really but it must have been a commercial or something. Anywho... woo that's a good start!

I saw a glimpse of those movie pans of the expansive Grand Canyon at sunset. The beautiful purples and reds and orange behind the majestic rocky cliffs and such of the site. I thought to myself, "gee I'd like to see that in real life," hmm maybe it was the history channel? I'm still on that... don't you just hate that? I can't think of where I saw it. Going back, "gee I'd like to see that in real life," then I thought to myself, "but not as a tourist". It seems as if my life and many peoples are for that quick view of the world, a tourist's view, a passing fancy. Take a look now before something that isn't so scenic occurs. I'd like to see it with new eyes and be awed by it's wonder but I also want to know more than just how beautiful it is. Put better, I'd like the knowledge of a native with the eye of a tourist. I'd like to see things more than just superficially, I'd like to know how people survive there, how their day to day life is, I'd like to see the not so scenic things but hope that they don't detract from the my view of it. They usually do though. It's like Atlantic City, the boardwalk is beautiful and hectic, the casinos huge and glittering, the ocean restless, all combined draw in tourists, but just on the outskirts there are a few broken down homes, there are people who roam around who've lost everything! And they all exist in this same little world.

I'm not looking for that "temporary high, to satisfy me" (to misquote Stacie Orrico). I want to live there and know what the people and the environment are like and still be able to appreciate the beauty of things around me. But maybe you can't have both, you'll either be an outsider or you're not. I think where I live now is beautiful but I know I don't belong here. And yet I know I was an outsider in the Bronx, where I spent most of my life. And in its griminess, there is a certain beauty to it, and yes I do miss that Boriqua beat thumping through my ceiling from the family upstairs. And yes I did dance to it in the privacy of my own room. Whoops! found out on Urbandictionary.com that it's Boricua. Haha. C! not Q. Just like I tell everyone about my last name. I shoulda known.

One more thing... is my wanting both ways (tourist and native) just trying to satisfy another passing fancy? Oh and this applies to all facets of life, not just travel. Example? Like relationships or significant others, I want to get to know a person good and bad side and still love them for how they are. hmm I guess you can have it both ways. Another example? Micro, like food. To appreciate the deliciousness of it and yet know how it was made.

Don't look down just because it's raining! Have a beautiful, sunshiny day in your heart and mind! heh. I happen to like rain! Time for chicken soup! Speaking of food, I'd like some salmon for dinner... mmm salmon.

Me

Oh this I made up myself so you can pass it on and "c"uote me. "The first taste is never great, it's the fifth that makes you love the first." haha. wooo.

Any place a tourist goes is just someone elses backyard. And your own backyard is not very exciting. So in essence, any place you go that is a backyard is not really exciting. Oh sure you'll may have initial awe but it will wane like everthing else. So i suppose, in order to get excitement from travel, one would have to travel to awe-enspiring places only once and for short duration. But maybe on the fifth time you visit is the one that you figure out it was awe-full?
