Conquests and Villages

Rich has been hounding me to try this pc game called "Ages of Empires II" and finally I caved in and had a great time with it. You slowly build an "empire" and try to gain as much people and warriors in a short amount of time. Then you battle it out with your opponent. Today was my third attempt at it. Being more inclined to domesticity (be it the estrogen or lack of testosterone?) I enjoyed building farms and universities, and peopling my little town/village rather than focus my attention on war mongering and battles. But that turned out to be a mistake since I play against one whose soul purpose in life is to rule the world... Of course it's overwhelming to fight against someone and I tend to shirk from such things, besides, that's what ends the game. I rather liked watching my little town grow. But today we decided to be allies and defend ourselves from the computer enemy, who, sadly, was not up to our speed. It was fun to play and look forward to the next installment. P.S. You can choose from different peoples from the mongols to the britons (even spanish and aztec) and also choose from different landscapes. I've tried a wooded area, then a snowy area then to one that was more rich all around i.e., in wood, gold, stone and food. A good time, though I was devastated when Rich came along and destroyed my towers, walls and university. It's heart breaking!

Don't forget, Ali G and Def Poetry Jam on tonight.
Have a wonderful week everyone!

Me.

Remember that any civilization is around ONLY due to it having an army that is willing and able to defend it. You cannot have one without the other. People tried that and were destroyed by invading barbarians. There will always be someone that has less and admires all your riches and will want it for themselves. it is the human way of life.

Funny you mention that; I just had an itch for a game and so I bought "Tropico". I think it'd be a little more suited for you. You know sorta like sim city where you manage an island community as "El presidente", and im not speaking Mirnish. The music is kick-ass though.

You know Kenneth and Kelvin play "ages of mythology", often online. Just to mention

"Age of Mythology" is the newer one but Ages of Empires II is a bit better for realism. You can suspend belief for Myth since the peoples of those times did believe in magic and mythical beasts and such. But too bad there isn't a "non-mythical" mode. But nothing beats Ages of Empires when you just watched History Channel International and you have a blood lust for world domination.

SimCity 4 is a good non-combat management game. I almost purchased Tropico a year or two ago. It appears to have a little more pizazz than a drier SimCity. Its a little old now and the pirate sequel wasn't that great I read. It's not as old as AOE though so its still in consideration.

All 4 games have been highly regarded: AOE, AOM, SimCity4, and Tropico. I'd get them all and get a slice of all the pies.

I also forgot to mention how much I love Civilization 3. It's a little too turn based for some but I like it.
