Soot's New Litter Box

Things That Go Doot In The Night

We bought Soot a new litter box the other day because the old one was too open, if you know what I mean. This one is cute...if that really matters in litter boxes...and it has a dome (looks like an igloo) and a ramp and very different from her first one, which was a box which we surrounded with a box for more privacy. We put it in our room because the other cat, Jake, who has a disease had used the one for Soot once when it was in another room and he's a messy cat, litterbox-wise. So we didn't want her to share his nastiness and I wasn't gonna clean TWO cats when I only have one! Jake takes medication that makes his poo runny so that's just gross. Good thing I don't have to deal with that! Soot's a dainty cat too so she would totally freak out if another cat shared her box. When he used her's she wouldn't even use it. I think, once he even snuck in the room and used it when we weren't around and Soot was going to use it and suddenly just freaked and ran out of the room. I didn't know why so I took a peak and there was this huge poo in there not even covered and Soot always covers her poo, Jake doesn't! We were totally grossed out.

Anyway! We've been kinda anxious to see whether she would use it or not because the first day she just walked up to it, slowly and sniffed it then walked away. Finally, we got worried because she hadn't gone to the bathroom the whole day so we took off the lid and she walked right to it and peed/urinated. ha Then later on we had to take it off again and she used it to poo. But there's a reason why there's a dome! We realized that it's really dark in there for her so I took the filter off the top so that some light would pour through...

The next day I caught her walking in and out of it, playfully jumping out and running in. So she finally got used to it, I thought. When I lifted off the dome there was a pee spot in the corner, uncovered! She always covers up because she's driven by cleanly devoir*. Later we took the dome off because she walked up to us and mewed. She went in and peed and didn't cover it again!! We decided it was because she was upset with the new box and was showing her displeasure. So we chased her and sniffed loudly, because it's worked for me when she used it but didn't cover it enough. Once, I sniffed and she ran back in the box and covered it over, but this time she refused! We were scolding her and she just stood there, in the corner, and didn't budge. Finally I picked her up, with a lot of struggling, took her to the litter box and took her paw and swiped the litter so it covered the pee, then she ran out and left. I decided to put the dome back on for the night, even though she hadn't gone poo yet. We still had our fingers crossed.

Then at 2:10 in the morning I woke up to scratching from the area of the litter box. And I thought, "oh my gosh, she's using it, with the dome!" and I was gonna wake up Rich while she scratched away, but thought against it, so I turned over to hug him and he woke up and sat up, "is she in there?", "yeah she's been in there for a while." "hmmp". And he turned over and went back to sleep. I, of course, didn't get to sleep til an hour later, I guess my body thought I was just taking a nap. Finally I drifted off and woke up half an hour ago. Okay have a good day everyone.

Sarcastic Post...

I'm fallin again. I just don't know though because I've fallin so many times and got my heart broken so many times that this time my heart is more guarded. I love him deeply but is he for real? He tells me he cares for me, this song is for you babes... I don't know. I have to watch out for myself, I've been hurt so many times that this girl is more cautious.
---------------------------------
" So I’m afraid to love
I’ve been hurt before
Gave out my heart
and it came out sore
I still carry those bruises
I still hold those bags
I’m older and wiser now
Pinned down by others flags
I’ve been concurred
I’m used up goods
Who wants to be recycled
Like and environmentalist ..should….
I’m afraid to love
Afraid to take a chance
So I write my list longer of all the things I want
All the things I’ll "never again"
And my options become very limited
And I feel awkward in situations with people I could like
If I wasn’t so damn picky
But then again- why shouldn’t I be picky?
But is love not picky?
"love finds you"
Do you really find it?
Out of a book? Answering a personal add? In the check out line?
I don’t know I’ve never tried
I run away from friendly smiles
[....]
Because its boobs not brains
Tits not talent
Pussy not pizzazz
Sex not sweetness
THAT’s love in the new millenium
And if that’s so I’ll either have to put out or get out of this dating game
Because it all ends the same- we look for love and feel ashamed that we opened up our hearts or our legs
And either settle, give up or keep dreaming
Or keep saying that dreaded phrase "I will never love again""

Riding Whales

Te tai/Still the tide's tenacious turmoil (from a poem by Megan Simmonds on Maori Heritage).

Hey if any of you ever get the chance, you should see this movie called "Whale Rider". Wonderful! It's about a 12 year old Maori* girl who wants to be the leader of her people. This is from Roger Ebert, who reviewed it and gave it 4 stars (out of 4): "Sounds too ethnic, uplifting and feminist, right? The genius of the movie is the way is sidesteps all of the obvious cliches of the underlying story and makes itself fresh, observant, tough and genuinely moving. There is a vast difference between movies for 12-year-old girls, and movies about 12-year-old girls, and "Whale Rider" proves it." Oh I cried through some parts, and sitting there, in the quiet parts all you could hear was sniffling. Rich liked it too. You would think it was all serious but it's actually interspersed with funny scenes and funny lines. I had trouble with their accent at first, for example the word "defend" would come out "de-feend"...Rich didn't seem to have any problems...he grew up with the Boston accent in his ear so I see how it was easy to understand. haha I think the word "hard" would be "hahd". Okay gotta run, just see the movie! Oh if you guys don't know about this site you should refer to it if you were thinking of seeing a certain movie or not. Click Here. Or you could just look up Roger Ebert's site on suntimes.com/ebert. You can also look through the archives by clicking "search" under the Ebert tab. Okay have a good day all! Gotta run.

Picture of the Week

This was taken only a few minutes ago, out on the cold, cold, gusty porch. You can sorta make out my upturned face in the pic. The rest you don't really want to see...i cropped it out for your viewing pleasure. Yes so there's our beautiful little kite in the wind. It was so gusty (no constant breeze) that it just flew in bursts. But we captured this one so enjoy!

Me
Up To The Highest Heights

I felt it yesterday. The call of the wind. I was jonesen to fly a kite. Rich claimed that there was no wind out and I have to agree that looking out the window there were no signs of even a breath of air. But I knew better. It's a fact that by the beach it's always windier! So I excitedly started up my car and grabbed our kite and searched for my camera. After locating it I put it on the kitchen table so I could grab it on the way out. I decided against sneakers, preferring my J. Crew (shot to hell) flip flops, because we were going to the beach, and I knew that if I stepped in water I would be happier with flip flops rather than sneakers and socks that would make me squish around and if kept up long enough the skin on my feet would start peeling if kept wet and gross the whole time. That would definitely detract from the experience.

So I rushed out to try some quick kite flights from our porch while I waited for Rich to get ready. I got a few quick flights and I spun around laughing. I become simpleminded when I get kite flying in my blood (I think it's because my thoughts are in the clouds...haha). If flying a kite means you have to be slow witted then call me stupid. Finally we get in the car, (it was 61 degrees when we left the house and somewhat sunny) and I commented to Rich that maybe he should have brought a jacket but he wasn't sure since it was warm...but it's always colder at the beach because of the wind and so forth. When we got to the beach we noted that there were waves and that usually means wind, so we stepped out of the car and walked closer and not only were the waves surging but they were pretty high, so there was only a little strip of land to walk on! On stepping out we also noticed that there was a nice little breeze...

We quickly put our kite together and tried to get it up in the air. We noticed something black in the sky further down the beach from us and I was certain it was a kite but Rich said he thought it was a big black bird. I knew it couldn't have been a bird because it hovered so long in one spot without flapping and it didn't even land for a second.

Rich was at the helm* first but to no avail, there were several attempts, til we were all a little frustrated, finally he handed it over to me (master kite flyer extraordinaire) and zoom, up, up it flew! I was laughing and laughing, there went any type of modesty and composure I took care was all people saw on the beach. I made it loop-the-loop. I made it look like it was gonna come crashing down to earth only to have it zoom back up to flight at the last minute, I made it fly to the right and change its mind and fly to the left. Oh god, that was close to being inebriated that I've ever been. I kept calling to Rich to take over. I get like that often, I'm so intoxicated that I'm laughing and rolling that sometimes it's hard for me to concentrate on what I'm doing. If I'm in the kitchen chopping away at onions or celery or whatever and watching something funny, usually comedy central, I'll be laughing so hard my hands will lose all sense and I wont be able to chop until I sit down and breathe. Aunty Susie's little girls tell me I laugh too much. Screw you, you prigs*. I don't really mean that...haha

Back to kites. I finally let Rich take the wheel and he showed me the tecnique to "pop" it up into the air...so maybe it was his pop that allowed me to be the master kite flyer that I am...but I disagree. I'm just magical. haha (I'm sure I could have flown mine without any help!) So he had the kite and I was busy laughing and staring up (no wonder I have a little crick) that I didn't notice that his foot was right in the water. oops. Well I had my chance to give my feet a soaking as well as my jeans cuffs, but it was "all right, oh yeah, feels good" (sorry a song that was playing, Weezer). We were passed by this little boy (about 4 years old) holding a kite handle and I look up and there above me was a black bat. Bastards. Nice balloon! Where are the stunts, huh! little boy? That's right, I thought so.

We finally let up because the water had inched closer and closer to us and I almost killed a pink padded little baby when my kite came crashing at their feet. Whoops. The couple didn't notice, too enthralled by their baby, but she knew... So we headed home, cold everywhere. Rich asked if I finally got it out of my system, but I only smiled. That kinda high is hard not to get addicted to. So when we got home I went up to the kitchen and what did I find on the counter? My camera! Of course! So no picture of the week of our kite flying! I would have forgotten to take pictures even if I did bring it. So ended our flight...for the day anyway. I wouldn't chance it today since it's cooold and looks wet. It really is too windy...hmm. See y'all soon and have a good day.

Nightmares and Dreamscapes

Had a nightmare last night. I dreamt that my brother was dead and that somehow his angry spirit was in the house. When I would walk into the room his spirit would close and lock the door behind me trapping me inside. The first few times it happened was almost done jokingly and the door would open when I put my hand to the knob but finally when I tried to open it the last few times he would bar it from me and all I could do was stand there struggling to get it open, and I could feel the anger driving at me from him and this made me furious, he was mocking me and I couldn't get out of the room. So after agonizing over being locked in, perspiration dripping down my face and fear and anger boiling inside of me I started screaming "Get out of this house! Open this door and get out! I don't want you here!" And the door opened. I could feel his bitterness and also the sadness towards me at being yelled at and told that he wasn't wanted but he finally drifted away. It almost broke my heart. I remember sobbing on the floor while Rich held me.

My nightmares and dreams are strange because I'm never in my body when it happens. I'm always floating nearby watching as I undergo whatever it is I'm doing. I still feel the emotions that my dream body may feel but I never see it 1st person, it's almost omnipotent, and I can even read what everyone else around me feels. In this nightmare I even followed my brother's spirit as he moved away even though I knew my body was collapsed on the floor weeping in the room. My whole body is drained from that experience. I even went to bed at 10 but instead of waking up at 6 I woke up at 8:30. All the muscles in my back and shoulders are tense and sore as if I really were trying to force a door open. I wonder if Rich heard me screaming, he often goes to bed late at night and tells me the next morning that I've spoken in my sleep. I'm emotionally drained as well and still feel tired! It looks like a dreary day out. Fits perfectly. Okay I gotta run.

Have a good day y'all.
